In 2010, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust approved a donation of HK$249 million to support the Jockey Club Innovation Tower project and set up the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (JCDISI), which will be housed at the Tower along with Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s School of Design.
Details of the projects were announced on Tuesday, January 17. JCDISI will be a design hub that facilitates the development of ideas in social innovation among higher education institutions. The work undertaken in JCDISI will reflect the four core competencies of the School of Design as well as the social needs in Hong Kong: Service Design, Sustainable Environment, Holistic Health, and Adolescent and Family Development.
An annual Design for Social Innovation Festival is also in the plans to further interaction among the design community. The Jockey Club Innovation Tower is undergoing construction and is expected to finish by mid 2013.
