MyShelter Foundation’s latest venture, Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light), aims to light up disadvantaged communities nationwide with an eco-friendly light bulb made from old plastic bottles. The project was launched in July 2011 and has since lit up approximately 25,000 low-income homes.
The rising cost of electricity leave 40% of the population in the Philippines living at the bottom of the pyramid unable to light up their homes. The solution that Liter of Light provides is an easy-to-make, affordable way for households to install lighting on ceilings. The product made out of a plastic bottle, water, and bleach was designed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A Liter of Light hopes the project will inspire citizens to use sustainable energy.
