ImpactAssets, a nonprofit conceived by the Calvert Foundation to encourage philanthropists and individual investors to engage in impact investing, has released their third annual compilation of 50 impact investment fund managers.
Called the IA 50, the list attempts to showcase a range of investment opportunities through fund managers.
For several years, there has been more interest in impact investing than the opportunities for mainstream investors to participate, says Jed Emerson, Chief Impact Strategist of ImpactAssets.
“The IA 50 was designed to help convert interest into action by showcasing funds with expert management and solid track records,” Emerson said.
Firms need to meet certain criteria to be featured on the list. They include over 3 years of experience in the impact investing field, investments through private equity and debt, at least $5 million in assets under management, and operations in more than one country, a country with significant population, or a sizeable region in the US.
A selection committee which was chaired by Emerson and included experts from The CAPROCK Group, Eirene, Haas Business School, Labrador Ventures, Toniic, and UBS handpicked the firms.
According to ImpactAssets, the 50 firms manage a combined $10.8 billion in assets within the impact investing market.
