Organizers of Social Enterprise Week (SEW) in Dubai announced that the event will take place this year from March 4th to 9th.
The week-long celebration will feature panel discussions every evening and guests speakers representing a range of business sectors sharing ideas on doing “good business”. It will attempt to attract social entrepreneurs, business experts, and seasoned investors to mix and mingle.
A highlight of the event, similar to the inaugural celebration last year, is the Dubai Regional Final of the Hult Prize. The Hult Prize is a global competition challenging university students to create social enterprises. Every year, a different problem is selected by former US president Bill Clinton for teams of university students to tackle using business concepts. This year, students are challenged to build social enterprises that address non-transmissible disease in urban slums.
Six regional winners (Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, Shanghai, and Sao Paulo) will attend the Hult Prize Accelerator where they will polish their business models. The teams then present their ideas at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in September in New York for a chance to win $1 million in startup funding.
