The Nexus: Global Youth Summit is an annual social change event that started in 2011 in New York. It hopes to 1) bring together young leaders, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists from around the world to explore leadership among youths, 2) catalyze young global philanthropy and social investment, and 3) connect wealth and social entrepreneurship through dialogue, collaborative problem solving, and education.
The Global Youth Summit is preparing for a better future. Reports have indicated that by 2050, $40 trillion of wealth will be transferred from the older generation to the younger generation in the United States alone. There is an opportunity to use the wealth toward a better world. This event aims to expose the possibilities and challenges of the world to young, wealthy change-makers.
There is no fee for the event, however those who want to attend have to apply online after which qualified applicants will be selected to attend. The event is fit for experienced and new philanthropists, social investors, and social entrepreneurs. Selection of participants is based on a number of factors including who is referring the participant, personal and professional background, and diversity. The attendees of the event are ideally social entrepreneurs and wealth-holders – either self-made, heirs, or members of the royal family. Here is a list of speakers, hosts, and advisors of the event.
Most recently, Saudi Arabia’s Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, founded by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and Princess Amira al-Taweel, granted $50,000 to support the summit.
The summit ensures that wealth is being spent in the right places and is already creating an impact. According to co-founder Daniel Karpantschof on an interview with Do It In Person, “More than 10 million dollars changed hands within three hours, from young wealth-holder to young social entrepreneur.”
