“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be.” If this sounds like a line from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button it probably is. YesKidzCan! embodies this idea by instilling social entrepreneurship in children grades 3-8. They provide educational tools and get children excited about changing the world. There are tools such as easy-to-follow project kits, reward and certificates to congratulate children on their achievements, interesting and educational topics for conversation at the dinner table, and an online community for parents to share their kids’ experiences.
One of their programs called the Social KidPreneurz Awards Program gives children a chance to receive $100 seed money for a business activity that involves selling a product or service and donating the funds earned to their cause of choice. For example, eleven year old Max from California loves the endangered animal manatees. He created and sold animal-themed coloring books and hand-made soaps to support Save the Manatees Club which is a nonprofit that gets the manatees off the endangered animals list. This earned him $225 which was enough to adopt and protect 9 manatees at $25 each with the organization.
The application to participate in the Social KidPreneurz Awards Program can be retrieved from their website.
